Being watched by security cameras? Honestly, I would feel a little uncomfortable if my every movement is recorded by
cameras in the classroom. However, I think no one watches the cameras 24 hours a day. The authorities would view the tapes only when something happens. Installing security cameras in classrooms seem more suitable in secondary schools and in high schools where bullying or disruption still happen. The cameras make students feel safer, so they can concentrate on schoolwork. Some teenagers can't control themselves, so security cameras would lead to reducing cutting tables or damaging school furniture.

Some people may think it is absolutely an invasion of privacy, but those people should think again about why they feel okay when they walk into the banks with lots of security cameras, and now they're not accepting it in the classroom. Even some restaurants have security cameras too, and people still come in and eat without feeling bothered at all.
I think we can't deny the benefit of security cameras in classrooms. The only problem is how the authorities control the sources, avoiding having anyone access and abuse the information and then show it to the public such as on the internet or youtube.
I cannot see too much of a problem with having security cameras in school as they would provide a deterrent to bad behaviour. The only issue really is that of privacy. The benefits must outweigh the surrounding issues privacy. Around the city now many places have these cameras and no one really notices that they are been watched. But is the classroom the only real issues would be bulling, none of the real bad stuff we see in the streets so I feel it would not be necessary.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you and believe that security cameras can only be seen as a good idea in classrooms. The way society is going things are just getting more and more dangerous for students and for teachers. Maybe if some cameras had been installed in Coloumbine in the United states maybe some of the deaths could have been prevented.
ReplyDeleteOh by the way your blog is easy to navigate and understand good work.
make sure you link key ideas in your argument to the one of the website from which they come

In China, school installs the camera for some different reasons. Theft and supervise the educational quality are two main reasons for school to install cameras. There is not much bully behavior happens in the classroom in China. I guess it happens out of the classroom in China.
ReplyDeleteIf I was a student, I would feel uncomfortable in such kind of environment with a camera above me. I would feel there is always a "big brother" watching every single movement I make. I not only study but also rest in the classroom. I would feel there is no privacy for me. Am I too sensitive? I think that school should ask students to find out if they can accept it psychologically before installing.
And, i think camera installation cannot be substituted to the real care and concerns from teachers.
I agree, there is no harm that can come from having security cameras in classrooms, it can only help. It can help prevent fights, vandalisims or even students plotting to commit suicide taking half the class with them. Although if they started putting them in bathrooms that would be another story.
ReplyDeleteHey Binh, interesting blog, i enjoed reading it. I personally would feel uncomfortable if they installed cameras at school, but with the recent incidents happening in Auckland schools i think that there might be a need for them. In my old school, we had cameras in SOME areas near the locker areas mainly, but the thing is, there wasnt anyone who actully sat there an watched people, so i guess they were pointless. But some schools having security cameras might do them good.

ReplyDeleteHi Binh,
ReplyDeleteIts really a sensitive topic..
After I have read Trever, Ray and Tasneem comments , it seems like thay convinced me. However , I partly agree that classrooms should have some cameras. On the other hand, if the schools stated to have some cameras it seems like going to be a priso not school. Moreover, students come to class to learn not to be under watched.
